A Love of Craft
My name is Sarah and in my ‘spare’ time I run a small business called Rose Petal Cottage, selling items that I have made through knitting, sewing and crochet. For as long as I can remember, I have loved making things. I have memories of using a needle and thread from my mum’s sewing box to make a dress for my dolls, sitting with both my mum’s mum and my dad’s mum as they taught me to knit and eventually making a 3″ x 3″ red and white blanket for my tiny teddy bear. I don’t make things because I want to sell them – I sell things because I want to make them.
My little workshop is my favourite space in the house, with the jars of buttons, spools of ribbon and my trusty sewing machine. I have a big collection of craft supplies, and everything is chosen lovingly. I pick all of the fabrics and balls of yarn myself and always bring home the prints and colours that appeal to me personally. I don’t just buy my supplies from one place, and therefore have an eclectic mix of materials.
Essentially, I like things that I feel are ‘pretty’ and this carries over from my choice of materials into the actual products themselves. I like to take as much care over the packaging and presentation of my items as I do over creating them, as I feel that this is an important part of the customer journey.
I sell my wares through a range of different outlets. I love to do craft fairs, but I also have an Etsy shop. This blog will tell the story of not just the things I craft, but will offer craft tutorials and behind the scenes insight into our journey as a business. No doubt there will be posts about my dog and my love of cake too.
